*Tonight we are camped off a ridge line. High on the mountain. A storm is ripping through at the moment. My whole tent is shaking and the rain and wind are increasing. A tree literally just fell within feet of the front of my tent. Now I know the background story to when I hear about how people will be in their tent and branches and trees fall on them and kill them. Pretty freaking scary. My two girlfriends and their dog are camped far enough away from me that I can’t see if they are OK… Fuck my tent pole just collapsed. Crazy storm out here and the temp is dropping. Holding my tent up manually. Got to go. Can’t keep this up with one hand.
*A lull in the wind let me get out of the tent to replant a stake and adjust my leads. So far so good. We have a break for a few, but more coming.
Normally a ridge line isn’t where I would choose to make camp when a storm is coming, but we actually got caught here yesterday afternoon and decided to make camp where we were at instead of trudging on in the rain. Whoops… Didn’t realize it was going to be get this strong. Looks like the worst has just passed though.
Just happy the tree didn’t fall on me.
*Got up this morning to pee and saw the big tree that fell. For sure if it had fallen on my tent there would be no way the two girls could lift it off. Hell, I’m pretty sure the three of us would have a hard time moving a tree that size. It also happened to take another tree down with it. The wind was blowing in the right direction on that one, not onto my tent. Taylor and Erin had a few small trees go down by their hammocks, but none of us got clobbered… It was a cold and wet, but good night.
*Spending the morning bushwhacking our way down the trail. Debris, trees, branches everywhere.
